and goodfellas, the movie as well as the sopranos.

Biblical incidents that bothered me.

i wanted to discuss the (supposed) biblical events that disturbed me a lot when i was a jw.

these incidents were just read and discussed in the kingdom hall as if these are normal and justified, which clearly weren't.

perhaps this led to my awakening.

Yes, oh my goodness so many…

... Samson tying a bunch of foxes together and setting their tails on fire ... so cruel to the foxes...

... also so cruel to drown all the wildlife and animals in the flood, even the horses in Pharoah’s army...

(huge soft spot for animals here...)

... but also terrible things to people, described so vividly and graphically: “... tent pegs driven thru temples... fornicators speared thru their private parts... children torn apart by she-bears... infant’s heads being dashed against the rocks... prophets sawn asunder...”

Eeee, I’m making myself sick. This is such terrible stuff ... some “holy” book, hey....

those of us still attending meeting are actively encouraged to use out tablets or smartphones to direct people to jw.org.

how about, after doing the standard presentation casually say to householder, you can also look at this forum to read of experiences of life as a jw as well as the official version?.

obviously you need to be working by yourself or with a pimo jw..

Faced with the reality of mortality

how have you all coped with facing the reality of our mortality?.

most of us were raised to firmly believe we would never get old or die... so here we are now having to face the reality that are getting older... we are going to die.. sometimes it really pisses me off that we were never helped to comprehend this most basic of facts.

we were given a utopian dream as a "fact", and hence never taught how to face our inevitable futures.... thoughts?.

Thank you and WiFiBandit for posting those links, though so depressing. When you are away from the Borg for awhile, it's shocking to notice again just how terribly suppressing and limiting it all is...

Not to mention mind-numbingly repetitive... What a terribly sad and unnatural way for kids to grow up, and for anybody to live, so tightly controlled and insulated.

I couldn't help but notice this point from the outline and how hypocritical they are: "...Jesus was a loving shepherd, not someone who rigidly insisted on numerous rules..."

Uber Cart Witnessing at the State Fair

last thursday i bunch of us working decided we were going to head down to the state fair and badge our way in to get a fletcher's corny dog for lunch.

we had to go to a specific gate to park and show our credentials to get in.

this meant driving halfway around the perimeter of the entire fairgrounds.
